April’s Featured Property – Spring Valley Texas

Spring Valley Texas has a small-town feel, despite growing in size since its incorporation in 1954. Residents who live there recognize their neighbors and know their city officials by name. It’s a close-knit community. The majority of residents are homeowners and seek out Spring Valley to raise their families in. April’s featured property is owned by an upstanding community member who shares the close relationship with his neighbors that Spring Valley is known for. 

The Spring Valley Texas Cul-de-sac

April’s featured home sits in a cul-de-sac in Spring Valley Texas near Hilshire Village. It’s a two-story home on an average-sized lot. It’s a fairly wide home and has large windows in the front of the property. It’s a charming, elegant home that resonates with the old-school values of the city. It’s got a very classy appearance that is greatly emphasized by landscape lighting. 

Identifying A Goal & Vision For A Property

Unlike some properties we visit, the owner had a very specific goal for his property. He had two children and called specifically to set up two stadium lights in the cul-de-sac in front of his home. He wanted to extend the playtime for his kids and the neighborhood kids so that they could stay out later, safely. When Houston Lightscapes arrives at a property for a consultation, we also provide a free lighting demo. Since stadium lights aren’t something you can provide a demo for, Michael Akerman, the founder of Houston Lightscapes, offered to install a free lighting demo to highlight the house. The owner was open to the idea and upon seeing the finished result, was adamant that he wanted landscape lighting installed in addition to the LED stadium lights. 

What Lighting Techniques Were Used?

The focus of this lighting plan was the LED stadium lights installed in front of the house. We cemented two holes in the front of the yard and installed the stadium lights. This added additional security and safety for the children in the neighborhood. To highlight the beautiful house itself, Mike and his team installed in-ground and accent floodlights directed at the house. This drew attention to the architectural features of the building. The installation took a total of 3 weeks since we had to get permits for the stadium lights. 

What’s Special About This Lighting Design?

This lighting design was inspired by a neighbor’s desire to give back to his community. Not only did he want to improve his own children’s lives, but he wanted to improve the lives of other children in the cul-de-sac. It’s rare these days to find people who are looking out for the betterment of the neighborhood. Houston Lightscapes was honored to help with this goal and was thrilled to see the finished result, knowing the fun that will be had under those LED stadium lights.
