If you’re lucky enough to live in West University Place Houston, you know how special this suburb is. Bustling with bars and restaurants, and beautiful outdoor parks, West University has a lot to offer its residents. The majority of people in West University own their homes. Only 9% of the population rents. The streets are lined with beautifully built homes with well-kept lawns. Houston Lightscapes has years of experience serving this area, and for June, we’re talking about one of our favorite houses in the suburb.
The West University Place Houston Dwelling
The West University Place Houston Dwelling is a two-story brick home with large windows and ivy growing all over the walls. It sits on a standard corner lot. There are landscaped bushes and trees and a little garden area outside. There are two-door archways that make it look just like a house out of the french countryside. With the light terracotta bricks and the ivy, this house combines rugged charm with the whimsy of nature.
Identifying A Goal & Vision For A Property
The house belongs to an older couple who were looking to redo their backyard and add extra security. They wanted to emphasize the foliage and greenery in their backyard. Originally, they had no plans to touch the front of their property. Mike, the founder of Houston Lightscapes, installed a free lighting demo in the front of their house and upon seeing the results, the couple decided to move forward with a front and back residential lighting installation. The couple told Mike they wished they’d done it sooner.
What Lighting Techniques Were Used?
Houston Lightscapes used accent floods, in-ground floods, and path lighting in the front of the house. Floodlights cast a broad wash of light over an intended area. Accent floods are used to accent certain features and fixtures on the property, such as foliage while in-ground floodlights are installed in the ground and angled up. The pathlights provided an elegant, functional design to guide visitors to the front door safely.
In the backyard, Houston Lightscapes installed accent floods and moonlighting. In a large oak tree in the backyard, a moonlight was installed to replicate the full moon effect of moonbeams cast at the ground below. The accent lights were again used to emphasize the foliage and greenery in the backyard, bringing to life the landscaping and gardening.
What’s Special About This Lighting Design?
The homeowners were not expecting to install residential lighting in the front of their home. Because of this, they placed their trust in Mike, allowing him to come up with some landscape lighting ideas and show how great landscape lighting can really be for a property.
